This unusual image portraying a young woman was made by UK-based award winning photographer Marten Collins and printed using the Gum Bichromate “alt.photo” process by Julian Smart. Using a quality water-colour art paper hand-coated with a sensitised Gum Bichromate and colour pigment solution which, the enlarged same-size negative was exposed to a UV light source. The discovery in 1839 that bichromates were light sensitive led to their use in several different alternative photographic techniques... most still practised today by creative art photographers.
The image size is approximately 8 x 10 inches (20 x 25 cms) and is matted behind an 11.5 x 16.5 inch (29 x 42 cms) bevelled card mount carrying the photographers signature.
Note that the on-screen image has less visible detail, slightly different contrast, colour tone and overall sharpness compared to the real photograph. However, if you like the on-screen image you will love the actual signed photograph framed on your wall.
