This evocative “one-off” interpretation of a Welsh standing stone erected several thousand years ago uses one of the oldest alternative printing methods... namely Gumoil, a process using a coating mixture(s) of Gum Bichromate and coloured oil paint pigments. This image, made in 1995 by Dennis Fielding of South Wales, was exposed four times onto textured water-colour paper - each time to a different coloured and sensitised emulsion applied by hand. The four colour layers were 1) Cadmium Yellow, 2) Cadmium Yellow and Permanent Rose, 3) Cobalt Blue and 4) Neutral Black Tint. Each coating is exposed to the sun, or a UV lamp, thoroughly washed and dried before an additional coating and exposure is undertaken... an image of this complexity taking perhaps a few days to complete.
The image size is approximately 5.5 x 8.25 inches (14 x 20 cms) on 10 x 13.5 (25 x 34 cms) textured water-colour paper, processed to archival standards.
Note that the on-screen image has less visible detail, slightly different contrast, colour tone and overall sharpness compared to the real photograph. However, if you like the on-screen image you will love the actual signed photograph framed on your wall.
